One of the mandates of Agriculture Machinery Centre is to ensure the country has safe and efficient farm machinery to be used by the farming populace.
Agriculture Machinery Certification sections had tested 2 models of power tillers ( Kubota and Yanmar) based on the National Standard endorsed at Bhutan Standard Bureau. The team had also tested Oil expeller brought for test by Karma One Stop. The two models of reapers for harvesting of paddy from Sonam Dongphel and Farm Machinery Corporation Limited were also tested based on the Ministry endorsed standards which are under public review in Bhutan Standard Bureau for national endorsement.
The machines which conform the standards shall be recommended for use through awareness programme in the media very soon. The machines that need changes shall be discussed privately with Enterprises which requested for test.
AMC had just started with this professional activity and shall work to ensure that safe and efficient machines in the country for farming operations are made available. After rigorous advocacy on the importance and need of such standards and tests, the private sector had shown positive move to involve AMC for test and recommendation. This activity received technical support of SFaMP-II, JICA project.
Management would also request all agencies within the Ministry of Agriculture and Forest to involve AMC during the planning phase of purchase of huge farm machinery to ensure standards are met.
